Text description provided by the architects. This OYO story takes you to Kleit, Maldegem, where a single family house is conceived as a place that sticks perfectly to the basic idea of living. Functioning very open minded, the layout of the house stays simple and readable.
Although OYO choose for a very contemporary approach, the house is well integrated in this typical urban patchwork of ‘extension after extension’ buildings. In fact, you could say that this is an a-typical solution for a typical Belgian rural scenery. The new house is well received in the neighborhood, including the 80 year old neighbor, who loves OYO’s architectural intervention.
From the beginning it was clear that the clients wanted an alternative industrial building approach for the design of their house. OYO focused on the creation of an envelope in which the residents could find their freedom. Not only now, but also in the future when possible programmatic changes could arise.
This results in an adaptable program according to the residents' demands. Collaborating on a very intense level led to a fascinating interaction which is a confirmation of the office’s vision in general. The project grew out of shared principles and ideas.
